9 t h A N N U A L SATURDAY, AUGUST 25, 2007 Click here for the 2007 Sale Results Story & Photography by: Larry Larson Spearfish, SD – Two of the nations leading sires – Frenchmans Guy and Hot Colours - once again drew national attention in the Quarter Horse industry at the 2007 Myers Performance Horse Prospect Sale on August 25th. Held east of Spearfish, SD at the Seven Down Arenas complex, it showcased the get of the stallions that continue to produce high dollar winners and record setters both in the performance arena and on racetracks across the country. Bill and Deb Myers, highly respected trainers and breeders from St. Onge, South Dakota, once again pulled together a strong offering of 55 head that included select consignments from many of the industry leaders in race, rodeo and performance arenas. Sale staff again included Auctioneer Lynn Weishaar with John E. Johnson on pedigrees rolling through at a fast pace with a strong demand throughout the sale. Volume buyers included the Jud Little Ranch from Ardmore, Oklahoma represented at the sale by Little and his ranch manager Tim Kusser. The ranch purchased 6 head including 4 broodmares – Jans Victory Dance, a 1990 brown mare sired by Dancers Victory (TB) in foal to Paddys Wild Whiskey; Special Hot Line, a 1998 sorrel mare sired by Hot Colours si 102 in foal to Frenchmans Guy; Dash With The Stars, a 1996 sorrel mare sired by Dash Ta Fame in foal to PC Redwood Manny; and Dash Ta Please, a 2001 sorrel mare again sired by Dash Ta Fame that sold open with a recipient mare in foal to Frenchmans Guy for 2008. Little also had the final bid on two Frenchmans Guy yearling mares – Painted Gal, a bay out of the great producer Miss Eye Paint si 90 by Mr Eye Opener, and Frenchmans Signature, a palomino out of an own daughter of The Signature si 107. Repeat buyer Richard Armer of the 4 Arrows Ranches in Preston, Kansas, again had the bid on several of the top sellers in the Myers Performance Horse Prospect Sale - Royal Colours, a 2005 buckskin gelding sired by Hot Colours si 102 and out of Queens Coin si 94 by Pocket Coin (TB); Miss French Paint, a 2005 buckskin mare sired by Frenchmans Guy and out of Miss Eye Paint si 90; and Frenchgirl Freckles, a 2005 palomino mare sired by Frenchmans Guy and out of a daughter of the Henderson Ranch stallion Freckles Gigolo by Colonel Freckles. Also purchasing 3 daughters of Frenchmans Guy in 2007 were repeat buyers Joe & Carla Spitz from Colorado – Just Kiddin Guys, a 2005 palomino mare out of No Kiddin Baby, a Streakin Six si 104 granddaughter; Guys Jay Jay, a 2005 chestnut mare out of a Docs Jack Frost/Doc’s J Jay mare; and Painted Eye, a 2006 buckskin mare, another great cross on Miss Eye Opener si 90 by Mr Eye Opener si 106. ‘Tough Enough To Wear Pink’ – a phrase now known throughout the rodeo world as a support method to help victims and families who have been touched by breast cancer. Specially designed chinks from B.J. Griffin and her company Leather Design were auctioned off during the sale – all proceeds went directly to the Lancaster’s Barrel Race For Breast Cancer. Kristie Peterson, Chilton, TX, had the pink chinks autographed by many of the current barrel racing leaders prior to sale day – Bill Myers had the winning bid at $2,500. Myers stated, “It is the Myers Family intent to ‘Give Back’ to someone who truly is in need. We have been ‘Blessed’ and our hearts go out to the people and families of cancer victims who face difficult times.” |
